MD News Recognizes Village Podiatry’s Advanced Communication Technology

MD News Digital Agent: Leading Medical Communication Technology (September 2008) – Village Podiatry Centers (VPC) is Atlanta’s largest podiatric surgical practice with 19 locations, 24 physicians and more than 100 support staff. In their growth process, the practice has faced many challenges in terms of communications to maintain operational efficiency. After reviewing many available options, they selected Digital Agent as their provider for state-of-the-art communication technology including VoIP (voice over internet protocol) Telephony and IT/LAN Support services.

“We are growing constantly. Our surgeons see eight to nine thousand patients a month,” said VPC’s CEO, Dr. David Helfman. “Digital Agent has provided a variety of solutions to meet the demands of our expanding patient volume.”

One goal was to provide a single-office feel for the staff making it easier to communicate between offices. VoIP Telephony service integrated the 19 clinic locations and the corporate office through a unified dialing plan. For patients, a Centralized Scheduling feature was implemented. Patients can now call one number rather than multiple offices to reach a scheduler who verifies benefits, sends out registration forms and schedules same day appointments for urgent care through access to all clinics’ schedules. The communication technology has increased both patient service and volume by streamlining operations.

Village Podiatry Centers’ has also taken advantage of Unified Messaging. The Unified Messaging feature allows users to retrieve voicemail, email and fax messages via Microsoft Outlook. Users have the option of having voicemail messages attached to an email in the form of a .WAV file and sent to their Outlook mailbox. This saves the staff time by going to one location for all messages. Voicemail messages can be forwarded via email to anyone with an email box avoiding transcription mistakes. Multiple office staff and physicians can be messaged simultaneously enabling rapid communication of key information.

Communicating efficiently and professionally is paramount in today’s medical environment. Paperless systems in all areas of medicine continue to expand and technology is the tool that has supported this transition.

“Advanced communication technology is a key component of our practice enabling us to operate efficiently and respond quickly to patients’ needs,” says Dr. Helfman.
